In the mid 1980's before the move to Amana Street the offices and studios were located near the marina on Nimitz Highway looking toward the Aloha Tower. (What a view from the front office with luxury liners on view daily and once in a while the RMS Queen Elizabeth docked there too).

Names on the air at KUMU during this time included Bill Edwards, Pat Kelley, Colin Sharp, Mark Enn, Gene Schiller, Bill Baist, Steve Lombard, Paul Miller, Mike Hickman, Dan Seki, George Rudolph, Larry Schaffer and Alan Campbell, who worked full and parttime in addition to his duties at Hawaii Public Radio, from the years 1979 to 1994.
