Composer Augustín Lara aka Agustin , of Veracruz...was born in Tlacotalpan, Veracruz on 30 October of 1897, although there are some biographical refrences stating Lara was born in Mexico City 30 of October of 1897. He died 6 of November of 1970
He spent much of his life in the Mexican gulf coast state and city of Veracruz. He studied piano in his youth developing his improvisational skills. He began to compose songs in the late 1920´s, and worked with many popular singers of this time. His music was influenced by the popular dances and jazz of the 1930s through the early ´40s. Lara composed hundreds of songs, and many of these have been heard in Mexican and American films of the period. A Monterrey radio station still broadcasts his recordings in an hour program every night. The City of Veracruz has immortalized him with a memorial statue. (Our photo at right). His most productive years were in the mid 1920´s to the early 1940´s. His most recorded works include Amor de mis amores, Aventurera, Muher, Noche de Ronda, Boca Chiquita, Perdida, Rosa, Volviste, Farolito and, of course, Granada. He was married to Mexican fim star Maria Felix 1943 to 1947.
