In 1952 to 1956 or thereabouts, the Trenton area was lucky enough to get its first FM radio station with the call letters, WTOA. The station had studios and offices in North Trenton. Trenton Transit Busses had FM receivers (tuned to WTOA) and speakers installed for the enjoyment of the riding public. Their format included mainly the playing of transcription disks of “easy listening” music. This was music with considerable elegance and class, not Muzak! In 1974, Mr. Herb Hobler purchased FM radio station, WTOA, which had been on the air since 1947, from the Trenton Times and changed the call letters to WPST. It was not until a few years later that WPST jumped on the rock 'n roll bandwagon by broadcasting 50,000 watts of Top 40 music from a brand new 500-foot tower.
