Giuseppe Verdi was only 31 years old when his sixth opera "I due Foscari" was given its world premiere in Rome. He was then at the beginning of a career which was later to take him to the heights of the Italian and European operatic world. He composed relatively quickly: "Ernani" was premiered in Venice in March 1844, and "I due Foscari" was presented in Rome in November of that year.
