Mason Adams, a ubiquitous character actor in radio, television, movies and the theater whose crotchety but reassuring tone of voice was as famous as his face, died on Tuesday at his home on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He was 86. Popular credits include Pepper Young's Family on radio and Lou Grant on TV. Smuckers Jams, TV commercials amoung many voiceovers.
